The value of network increases proportionately with the square of the number of its nodes. The value of a network increases proportionately with the square of the number of its users. ¡ª Bob Metcalfe, inventor of Ethernet In the broadband user population ranking list published by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in December 2006, China has a user population of 37.5 million and is ranked the second in the world to the United States. As for its Ethernet nodes, the number is even huger. In 1973, when the first Ethernet was set up by Metcalfe, its transmission rate is only 2.94Mbps. Today, the IEEE has determined the rate for the next generation of Ethernet will be up to 100Gbps! As its rate skyrockets, many aspects of Ethernet are improving in a concerted way, from the unceasing development of Ethernet standards to breakthroughs in product performance, from the booming of corporate data centers to the heated extensions like network security, from intelligence in cabling management to new waves of Wi-Fi without the fetter of wires¡¡ All these are undoubtedly the embodiment of the value of network. More important, the greater value of Ethernet is in the emerging converged applications, which will not only provide a cost-saver for telephone expenses. The true value of such lies in the improvement to our way of working and productivity. Constructing a network with sustainable operations is a new target for Ethernet, and carrier Ethernet has become a focus topic concerned by the industry. With the great leaps in standards, technologies, products, solutions and services, and experiences, the true value of carrier Ethernet is booming to success. As the most authoritative and most professional media in the network industry, China NetworkWorld will burden itself with the mission to create values for the participants when organizing this Conference, bringing leading edge technologies, products, applications and experiences in the network industry to the Conference. Metro Ethernet, convergence, 100Gbps, network security, 802.11n, Mesh, WiMAX, NGN, intelligent cabling and many more will play central roles on the Conference. More important, the Conference of this year will bring in some new faces with unique technologies, injecting their values to this country with huge market potentials. And, will you become the brightest star among them? Networks connects people, networks create values. We are in the same network world. How much value will networks bring in the future? All the answers to these questions depend on decisions of you and me, and everyone dedicated to the construction of this network world. |
